BOOM 93 - Local media: Online and radio
We are offering special terms for local media companies - monthly fees are lower, but we are also offering tips on how to succeed with a limited target group
From the focus point of view, local media are in the ideal position. You are focusing on a very specific target group, with a strong common interest of local environment, local news and events focused on one geography area. You are aware what your followers want, you live in the same place and it is relatively easy to react on the field. Of course, with these limits, there also comes a limit to the potential you can reach. Limited number of users means lower reach compared to big national media, so you need to play smart and know how to sell that reach.
We are not always able to help with that (although we will share with you ideas on what our other partners are doing), but we can help with your users returning to your content as soon as possible. Mobile app will help with that - once habit of using the app is there, frequency of returning to the media content is 3-4 times higher than it is in the mobile web. It is easy just to tap on the icon on the screen, scroll through the homepage and check what is new. If these news are related to your local environment, this is important - people will return if you give them the right info.
Push notifications will help with returning as well. There is something important happening in your town? Push notification will be the direct way to your readers - and as a local media, you are in advantage there. While mainstream media will bombard their users with "big stories", you are able to focus on important things in your readers' vicinity. You will be different, no need to be afraid of sending that notification.
One of our local media partners is Boom 93 from Požarevac, Serbia. Focusing on the town of around 60,000 people, Boom 93 has started as a radio station in 1992 (hence 93 :), but has launched a media portal in 1997, when the radio station was banned by Slobodan Milošević regime. Its media channels have expanded to social media and to video production.
The mobile app has launched in 2021 and is another way to offer Boom 93 followers way to stay in contact with local events. By connecting the app to their existing channels (web, Youtube), the editorial team is spared of tedious tasks of repeating the same tasks again and they are able to keep focused on what they do best. Content is imported completely, with all tags, categories, embeds, that were done on the web, and the app is listing Youtube videos they produce.
In addition, radio stream is available from the app. It works in the background, so the user can continue using the phone while listening to the radio - and it will also work with the screen off. Play can be stopped via notification, similar to what you are used to in various audio apps.
